Fatal Colorado Springs car crash death of Jacob Martinez
The Colorado Springs Police Department secured an arrest in connection with a fatal road rage incident that escalated into a homicide investigation. Authorities believe the suspect is responsible for the death.
On July 24, emergency services were dispatched after reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Police indicated the incident occurred at the intersection of North Union Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard. The driver involved fled the scene after striking the individual who exited their vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Daniel Nations, was apprehended and initially charged with first-degree assault. The victim, later identified by the El Paso County Coroner as 35-year-old Jacob Martinez, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Martinez passed away on July 27 due to his injuries.
Following the victim’s death, the police department reclassified the case, and Nations was charged with first-degree murder while in custody. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, this marks the 21st homicide in the city this year, a slight decrease from the 24 homicides reported at the same time last year.
