The McLean County Coroner’s office confirmed that Scott W. Smith, a 49-year-old Bloomington resident, lost his life in a serious vehicle collision over the weekend. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Wylie Drive and West Market Street in Bloomington’s western area.
Coroner Kathy Yoder stated that Smith sustained several injuries resulting from the crash involving two passenger vehicles. First responders were dispatched to the scene around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Medical professionals later confirmed Smith’s death at Carle BroMenn Medical Center. The other individual involved in the accident was transported to the hospital but suffered only minor injuries.
Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington released a statement regarding the incident. He expressed sadness over the loss of life and emphasized the importance of safe driving practices. “The loss of life in our community is occurring frequently, and motor vehicle crashes are preventable when the best driving habits are practiced,” Simington said. “We will continue addressing poor driving behavior through increased traffic enforcement and educational initiatives.”
