Brandon M. Lewis Dies in Fatal Peoria Shooting

Fatal Peoria shooting death of Brandon M. Lewis

The Peoria County Coroner has officially identified the individual who passed away following law enforcement intervention on Tuesday night. The deceased is Brandon M. Lewis, a 41-year-old resident of North Atlantic Avenue.

According to the Coroner’s report, Lewis sustained a solitary gunshot wound, resulting in his immediate demise despite extensive medical intervention by both emergency responders and the Peoria Police Department.

This case is currently being examined by authorities. A preliminary statement from Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria detailed the sequence of events. The initial police dispatch arrived at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a suspicious individual near the intersection of Northeast Glen Oak Avenue and Prospect Road.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man brandishing a baseball bat. This suspect reportedly attempted to strike one of the responding officers with the weapon. In response, one officer deployed a Taser. The second officer was forced to fire their weapon under duress.

The Illinois State Police have initiated an independent review of the incident. Once their investigation is concluded, the matter will be transferred to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
