The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office has officially identified the individual involved in a fatal collision between a pickup truck and a train.

Leonard A. Lois, a 78-year-old resident of Wheatland, was confirmed as the driver of the pickup truck. According to the sheriff’s office, the train in question was moving southbound, while the truck was heading westbound on a private farm access road. The accident occurred after the pickup crossed the railroad tracks.

Officials state that the private road had a stop sign but was not required to include gates or warning signals like bells or flashing lights.

Wheatland, Wisconsin – On Sunday morning, a fatal accident involving a pickup truck and a train claimed one life. Emergency services were dispatched to a private farm access road near County Highway W and 45th Street in Wheatland shortly after 10:45 a.m. At the time, another event was occurring nearby.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man inside the pickup truck sustained severe injuries and did not survive. Details about his condition were not disclosed.

Broadcast logs from Broadcastify indicate that one of the train’s containers, carrying a liquid, was damaged during the crash. It remains unclear whether any substance was released or if it posed a hazard.

Multiple agencies, including Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue, Randall Fire, Wheatland Fire, Bristol Fire, Salem Lakes Rescue, Somers Rescue, and Richmond, IL Rescue, along with Flight for Life, responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
