Fatal Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta car crash death of Miguel Angel Aguilar Figueroa
California authorities reported on Monday that a man identified as Miguel Angel Aguilar Figueroa, who was 36 years old, died following a serious collision on Highway 160 in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region on the previous Sunday evening. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) South Sacramento office detailed the incident in a public statement.
The fatal accident happened around 11:10 p.m. when Aguilar Figueroa was driving north on the levee road, heading towards West Brannan Island Road. According to the CHP, the driver veered into the southbound lane and subsequently collided with a guardrail located at the edge of the road. Following the impact, Aguilar Figueroa was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.
The guardrail involved in the accident was positioned adjacent to the Sacramento River, separating the highway from the water.
Preliminary information from the CHP indicates that the motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The agency is currently examining the incident and stated on Tuesday that they have not yet determined if alcohol consumption played a role in causing the accident. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as Miguel Angel Aguilar Figueroa, a resident of Lodi.
