Fatal Bracebridge, Ont., fire death of Paul Gray (60)
Investigators have identified the man wanted for murder, discovered deceased within a residence that had been reduced to ashes in Bracebridge, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that Mitchell Gray, aged 29, lost his life due to smoke inhalation inside the dwelling.
Further examination by experts revealed that the other two individuals located at the scene during the tragic event were Gray’s parents, who had been pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. These victims have been named as Paul Gray, aged 60, and Anita Gray, aged 59.
The Ontario Provincial Police received reports of gunfire during the evening hours on Friday, prompting emergency responders to travel to Beatrice Town Line Road. Upon arrival, they found the home completely engulfed in flames. The possibility that Mitchell Gray was still at large was considered as authorities worked to identify the remains found at the site.
According to Sergeant Joe Brisebois of the OPP, there was an initial suspicion that Mitchell Gray was among the deceased found inside the structure, although uncertainty persisted. Following their arrival, emergency personnel put into effect a shelter-in-place directive for residents nearby, which was later lifted after several hours.
Sergeant Brisebois explained that officers initially observed Paul Gray deceased outside the property, and subsequent post-mortem procedures led to the identification of the other two bodies discovered inside. It was subsequently determined that Mitchell Gray was one of the victims.
Ongoing inquiries by investigators aim to establish the underlying reasons for this horrific incident and the accompanying arson.
