Fatal Gainesville car crash death of Willie Junior Wayman
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the 80-year-old man killed in the McEver Road accident is Willie Junior Wayman. Authorities stated that next of kin have been notified about his death.
Initial reports from August 1 indicated that an elderly Gainesville resident was killed when his vehicle crashed on McEver Road. This tragic event happened on Thursday afternoon near the point where McEver Road meets Vineyard Way, the gateway to the McEver Vineyards apartments.
According to the sheriff’s official statement, the sequence of events began when a 36-year-old Gainesville woman, Sandra Raquel Garcia, drove her southbound 2014 Nissan Sentra into the traffic circle at the apartment complex entrance. She stopped her vehicle in the southbound lanes attempting to make a left turn.
The preliminary report from the Sheriff’s Office continues: a southbound 2014 Nissan Sentra collided with the back of Ms. Garcia’s car, pushing it into the intersection area.
Ms. Garcia’s vehicle was subsequently struck from the opposite direction by a northbound Kia Forte being operated by 39-year-old Brooke Allison Tortorigi. While Ms. Garcia and her young passenger, as well as Ms. Tortorigi, received only minor injuries and were transported to NE Georgia Medical Center, the driver of the Sentra suffered fatal injuries. His identity, initially withheld pending notification of family members, is known to be an 80-year-old Gainesville man.
This serious collision resulted in a two-hour traffic blockage in the southbound direction of McEver Road during the afternoon rush hour commute.
Further updates regarding this incident were provided later in the week.
