El Paso Police officials stated that members of the Special Traffic Investigations unit were dispatched to the intersection of Dyer and Sanders in Northeast El Paso on Saturday afternoon. This area was the scene of a collision.
According to information gathered by emergency responders, Mr. De La Cruz, who was 44 years old, had stopped behind another vehicle on Dyer Street. The initial report indicated he drove around this car despite the traffic signal remaining red. Consequently, he attempted a left turn onto Sanders Street, where his path collided with a tree.
El Paso Fire personnel responded to the scene, reporting that Mr. De La Cruz suffered serious injuries following the impact. He was observed going through the windshield of his vehicle during the crash.
As part of their ongoing probe, the Special Traffic Investigations team has implemented road closures at the intersection while their preliminary inquiry continues.
