Pennsylvania State Police detailed that they were dispatched to a construction site located eastbound on US 322 East, specifically 1.5 miles east of Thompsontown exit, at approximately 9:18 a.m. on August 8th. Upon arrival, troopers found vehicular traffic halted in both directions. According to the police account, a Ram 2500 truck disregarded the stop signal, colliding with a Lincoln MKZ sedan. This impact subsequently caused the Lincoln to strike a Peterbilt truck.

The 82-year-old driver of the Lincoln, Glenn Compton, who resided in Mifflintown, was pronounced deceased at the scene. An 80-year-old woman, also from Mifflintown, was seated as a front passenger in the Lincoln; she received suspected severe injuries and was airlifted to Hershey Medical Center. The driver of the Ram 2500, a 42-year-old male from Connecticut, was transported by air to Geisinger Danville Medical Center for medical evaluation. It was reported that the driver of the Peterbilt truck sustained no injuries.

The collision resulted in the closure of the Route 322 Eastbound lanes, managed by Mifflintown Hose Co. #1, remaining shut until approximately 1:30 p.m. A range of emergency services, including Central Juniata EMS, multiple fire companies, ambulance agencies, and the Juniata County Coroner, were mobilized to the incident location. Furthermore, it is noted that charges have not yet been filed, pending the ongoing investigation into the accident.
