Fatal MECOSTA COUNTY car crash death of MARK LEWIS and TAMYRA NORTHERN

Two individuals have been confirmed deceased following a serious accident on the U.S. 131 highway in MECOSTA COUNTY. The victims identified are MARK LEWIS, aged 59, from KENTWOOD, and his sibling, TAMYRA NORTHERN, 61, residing in PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA.

Mecosta County sheriff’s officials and local fire responders arrived at the crash site shortly after midday on Sunday, August 10. The initial report indicated a vehicle was completely on fire on the southbound section of U.S. 131, located just north of PERRY AVENUE.

Once emergency personnel managed to extinguish the blaze, they located the two victims and a canine companion within the charred automobile. According to law enforcement, the vehicle departed the roadway at a high velocity, subsequently colliding with a bridge structure before bursting into flames.

Investigators are currently examining the reasons behind the initial loss of control by the driver. To conduct this assessment and evaluate structural harm to the overpass, authorities had to shut down the southbound traffic lanes for roughly eight hours.

Supporting the main investigation were teams from the state police Accident Investigation Unit, emergency medical services from OSCEOLA, the Mid Michigan Medical Examiner Group, police agencies from BIG RAPIDS and FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY.
