Joseph Morris Hall dies in fatal Sanford shooting
Fatal Sanford shooting death of Joseph Morris Hall
Sanford police have officially charged Jaden Alexander Harris, a 24-year-old man, with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting. The victim, identified as Joseph Morris Hall, was 43 years old.
According to an official statement released by the Sanford police department, responding officers found a person suffering from gunshot injuries at the 800 block of Marbella Lane shortly after 5:20 p.m.
Emergency medical services brought the injured individual to a nearby hospital, but the person later passed away from their wounds.
Investigators discovered that the incident began with an argument between Harris and the victim while they were operating their vehicles on State Road 46 and Mangoustine Avenue.
Further details indicate the confrontation concluded at the Vue on Lake Monroe Apartments complex, where Harris is alleged to have shot the victim.
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith expressed his views on the matter. “The unfortunate death in this case originated from what was essentially a minor traffic disagreement, followed by Harris making poor choices,” Smith stated. “Joseph’s family is now experiencing profound grief due to his death, while Harris is currently incarcerated facing homicide charges.
“Smith elaborated, “It seems Harris persisted in pursuing Joseph even after Joseph attempted to leave the scene. Harris had multiple chances to depart without incident as he followed Joseph.
“However, Harris chose to continue the pursuit, which resulted in the fatal outcome,” the chief added. “If Harris had simply driven away at that point, this tragedy could have been avoided, potentially altering the circumstances for everyone impacted by Joseph’s passing. A preventable loss of life stemming from a relatively minor traffic situation.”
Jaden Alexander Harris is currently being held at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
