Houston police announced charges against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in the western part of the city last week.

The suspect, Cameron Clark Jackson, aged 27, faces a murder charge following the incident which occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on August 10.

According to statements from the Houston Police Department, officers were called to a residence located in the 1200 block of Ashford Meadow Drive and discovered the victim, identified as Za’Wight Johnson, with a gunshot wound.

He was transported to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries.

Investigators reported finding evidence of a shooting in the parking area of the townhome complex and information indicates that the teenager was inside the living room when the gunfire erupted.

Officials stated on Thursday that members of the HPD Westside Patrol Divisional Gang Unit located and apprehended the 27-year-old suspect, completing the booking process without issues.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the events leading up to it remain unknown.

Court documents detail that Jackson’s bail was established at $500,000 on Friday.
