A highly decorated Baton Rouge police sergeant passed away in a hospital after being struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. The sergeant was heading home from his shift when the incident occurred. According to the police department, Sergeant Caleb Eisworth, aged 44, lost his life on Sunday.

The police force stated that Eisworth had a long career in law enforcement, having served for 23 years. He was recognized with the highest honor from the department, the Medal of Valor, in addition to numerous awards for acts of bravery.

Law enforcement reported that on June 16, a man deliberately collided with Sgt. Eisworth’s motorcycle on Greenwell Springs Road, resulting in severe injuries to him. Officials indicated that the 41-year-old involved had planned the attack prior to the accident and was apprehended that same day in connection with the event.

The accused has been indicted on charges including property destruction, hate crime allegations, resisting law enforcement, and first-degree murder.
