Tragically, the death of Nathan Heiberg and Lucas Heiberg occurred as a result of a fatal Moorhead shooting.
New information indicates that law enforcement officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex located in the 2400 block of Third Avenue North on Monday evening, shortly after 8:45 PM.
According to reports, a female resident informed police that she had been subjected to an assault by two male individuals within her apartment unit. The caller also mentioned the presence of two minors inside the premises at the time.
Upon initiating entry into the apartment complex, law enforcement personnel allegedly encountered a situation that led to the discharge of a firearm.
The specialized tactical unit, Red River Valley SWAT, was subsequently dispatched to the scene to manage the situation, resulting in the evacuation of adjacent residential units for safety.
Following the arrival of the specialized officers, a high-intensity exchange of gunfire erupted within the apartment building.
Nathan Heiberg sustained fatal injuries at the scene of the incident. Conversely, Lucas Heiberg was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition was later pronounced critical, ultimately leading to his death.
The initial caller and the two children reported to be present inside the apartment were discovered to be physically unharmed following the events.
The involved law enforcement officers, Michael Anderson, Kyle Seehusen, and Tyler Seehusen, who are associated with the Fargo Police department and part of the Red River Valley SWAT team, have been placed on critical incident leave pending a full investigation.
The BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) has publicly stated that it intends not to file formal charges against the officers involved in this incident under its jurisdiction.
