According to information provided by authorities in Nassau, a pedestrian and their canine companion were killed when struck by a vehicle near Island Park on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at the junction where Austin Boulevard crosses Saratoga Boulevard. It was reported that Paul Silvio, who was 42 years old and a resident of Island Park, was in the process of crossing the road before 9 p.m. when the collision happened.
The vehicle involved in the fatal accident was a 2001 Mercedes. It was operated by an individual who was 27 years old at the time. After the accident, emergency services transported Paul Silvio to a medical facility. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
