Fatal Jefferson County car crash death of Robenson Benoit
Illinois State Police have confirmed the identity of the man killed when his vehicle struck a parked semi at a rest area on I-64 east of Mt. Vernon.
The deceased is identified as 30-year-old Robenson Benoit from Jacksonville. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being transported there from the Goshen Road Rest Area late Friday night.
According to Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse, Benoit suffered fatal head injuries as a result of the collision. State Police Accident Reconstruction experts are currently examining the scene to determine the events leading up to the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:09 PM.
The investigation revealed that Benoit’s car left the roadway and entered the rest area parking lot before colliding with the rear of the stationary truck. The truck driver involved in the accident was not injured.
