Fatal Paia shooting death of Suzanne O
Maui law enforcement identified Clembert Kaneholani, a 38-year-old man, as the individual suspected in the death of Officer Suzanne O in Paia. Kaneholani is currently incarcerated without the possibility of release.
Maui police announced on Friday that an anonymous person contacted authorities around 8:30 p.m., describing an incident where an unidentified man had entered their private land and discharged a firearm.
Chief of Maui Police, John Pelletier, informed Hawaii News Now that responding officers arrived near the Paia Sugar Mill and apprehended a person actively discharging a weapon, which officers identified as a rifle.
According to Pelletier, the officer sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate attempts to save her, the officer succumbed to her injuries. Pelletier described Suzanne O as a genuine asset to the community and her chosen profession.
