Fatal Sherman drowning death of Anand Baghel
State officials have identified the man whose body was recovered from Candlewood Lake after he fell in and drowned last week. The 55-year-old from Hamden is known as Anand Baghel.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Monday that Baghel was the victim. This identification comes as crews responded to the lake on Friday after receiving reports the man had entered the water from an anchored boat. According to DEEP spokesperson James Fowler, the search involved Environmental Conservation Police, dive teams, and local emergency services.
Officials confirmed Baghel’s recovery on Saturday. The search had been called off Friday night because of poor light conditions and team exhaustion. Crews returned to the lake at 9 a.m. on Saturday and located the body later that day.
