Fatal Denison shooting death of Feglys Antonio Campos Arriba

Administrative leave was initiated for a police officer from the Northwest Iowa department following a fatal shooting incident.

According to the Denison Police Department, emergency services were dispatched to Washington Park around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 15th.

Upon arriving at the park, officers encountered Feglys Antonio Campos Arriba, who was 36 years old. The police report indicates Campos initially stopped when officers arrived but subsequently became resistant to commands. This resistance led to a brief but intense struggle.

During the physical interaction, the officer reported suffering significant injuries and responded by drawing and firing his weapon. Medical personnel confirmed Campos did not survive the incident and died at the location where the confrontation occurred.

The officer involved was transported to a medical facility for treatment. Hospital officials later confirmed the officer was discharged from care.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation of this incident involving law enforcement. As per standard procedure, the case will be reviewed by the Crawford County Attorney’s office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office once the investigation is concluded. The affected officer has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
