The sudden death of Jose Alejandro Serrano Hernandez occurred after a fatal Hesperia car crash.
Coroners’ officials confirmed on Tuesday the identity of Jose Alejandro Serrano Hernandez, a well-liked street vendor from Hesperia. The incident happened last week and proved fatal.
The 47-year-old, identified as Jose Alejandro Serrano Hernandez, died as a result of the accident which took place around 8 p.m. on August 12th at the intersection of Danbury Avenue and I Avenue in Hesperia, announced San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s representatives.
Known for his snack cart business, or “elotero,” Jose Alejandro Serrano Hernandez was heading north on I Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department’s public relations officer, Gloria Orejel.
He was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries subsequently.
Hector Sanchez, the victim’s nephew, started an online fundraising campaign to support his family with funeral costs.
“This was definitely a shock for me and my family, especially my mom, because he was her brother,” Hector Sanchez stated in the statement.
“This still feels like a dream,” he added. “The last time I saw him was at my school today when he was selling snacks outside of Sultana.”
Sanchez expressed doubt about the cause of the crash.
“I do not believe that he lost control,” the statement quoted him as saying.

“Everything feels unreal, I cannot believe he’s gone,” Charlie De Avila wrote on Facebook. “He was such a kind and generous person. He always came by my friend’s house and offered us free snacks.”
De Avila remembered Hernandez giving his son anything from his snack cart for free the day before the accident. “He simply enjoyed seeing others happy. May he rest in peace.”
“Gonna miss seeing his cart around here,” Lesley Warran said.
