Fatal WAKULLA COUNTY shooting death of NICHOLAS DRAUGHON

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office confirms a suspect is now in custody regarding a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday morning. The incident resulted in the death of 31-year-old SHAYNE SHEFFIELD, who was arrested later that day for second-degree murder.

Official reports indicate the fatal shooting took place around 11 a.m. at B Bettywood Circle. Deputies responded to reports of a “shooting incident at a residence in Wakulla County.”

According to law enforcement, officers discovered a body near a recreational vehicle belonging to NICHOLAS DRAUGHON. The victim was found living with his girlfriend at the location.

Investigators learned from NICHOLAS DRAUGHON’s girlfriend that she remained inside the vehicle while the two men were outside engaged in conversation. She stated she heard two shots and exited the vehicle upon hearing the gunshots. The girlfriend reported that upon seeing the suspect, SHAYNE SHEFFIELD appeared to be smiling and claimed the victim was unharmed.

The arrest report also details that the girlfriend retrieved a firearm and fired three shots in an attempt to drive SHAYNE SHEFFIELD away. It is reported that the suspect then departed the scene in his personal vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the investigation. They located SHAYNE SHEFFIELD at his residence located on La France Road in Leon County and arrested him later on Sunday evening.

Forensic evidence gathered by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the ballistic evidence found at SHAYNE SHEFFIELD’s home closely matched the casings recovered from the scene of the incident.

Wakulla County Sheriff JARED MILLER described the event as a “senseless act of violence that claimed the life of a young man.” SHAYNE SHEFFIELD is currently being held at the Wakulla County Detention Facility pending further judicial proceedings. The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing.
