The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the woman struck and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Fresno has been identified. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on Olive Avenue near First Street.
According to the coroner, the woman, Shante Vasquez, who was 30 years old, did not survive her injuries. Law enforcement officials at the scene reported that Akinyele Chatmon, a 47-year-old driver, is suspected of operating under the influence of both alcohol and drugs at the time of the collision. Chatmon has been booked on charges including felony driving under the influence. The event is currently being investigated by authorities.
