Celestino Mateo dies in fatal Los Angeles County car crash
Fatal car crash death of Celestino Mateo in Los Angeles County
County officials identified the deceased 61-year-old man Thursday. He was killed after being struck by a vehicle in an incident where the driver fled the scene. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Mateo was crossing eastbound 95th Street when a possible silver SUV, traveling southbound on San Pedro Street at a high rate of speed, collided with him. The Los Angeles Police Department reported this incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Monday. Following the crash, the driver continued southbound on San Pedro Street without stopping to help Mateo. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived shortly after and pronounced Mateo dead at the scene. The police are asking anyone with information, particularly about the hit-and-run, to contact the LAPD South Traffic Division during business hours or the non-emergency number for weekends and holidays.
