Emergency responders were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of East Main Street Wednesday evening after reports of a violent attack. Upon arrival at approximately 9:45 p.m., law enforcement discovered three individuals injured by利器. Among the victims were a 38-year-old female, identified as Dawnette M. Sigmon, and her two teenage children. Paramedics provided immediate care at the scene before transporting all three to medical facilities.
The mother tragically succumbed to her injuries at the hospital later that night. Her two children, aged 14 and 16, received medical treatment but were discharged without needing further hospitalization.
Identifying the deceased female was confirmed by the county medical examiner’s office. Authorities confirmed the preliminary cause of death for Ms. Sigmon was multiple stab wounds. Investigations are ongoing as detectives gather evidence, including reviewing security footage and interviewing numerous witnesses.
The Decatur Police Department is appealing to the public for any information that might assist in identifying the suspect responsible for the Wednesday night assault. Citizens are encouraged to provide tips to the CID unit.
