The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation concerning the death of a 26-year-old male who passed away on August 20th. Gary Guenther, serving as the chief investigator for the medical examiner’s office, issued a statement regarding this matter.

Akron police were dispatched to a residence located in the 900 block of Dayton Street following reports of gunfire, arriving around 10:35 p.m. According to Guenther’s information, initial responders found the victim inside this home, identified as Deron Boston, and he was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Boston deceased at the scene shortly after, around 11:01 p.m.

Around the same time frame when the Dayton Street incident occurred, law enforcement officers received a separate emergency call for a 25-year-old male who had been shot and was currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Lieutenant Brent Bauknecht provided a statement indicating that this individual is still under their care.

Bauknecht stated that detectives are diligently examining potential connections between these two separate shooting incidents to determine if they might be linked.

In addition to the ongoing police investigation, the medical examiner’s office has confirmed they will perform an autopsy and release an official determination of Boston’s identity once that process is completed.
