According to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a tragic incident claimed one life on Monday morning within Darlington County. Details of the event emerged from the South Department of Public Safety.
The incident occurred on Friday night, approximately six miles from the town of Hartsville. Initial reports stated that a young female driver, operating a jeep, attempted to pass a pickup truck on a road marked with double yellow lines, as both vehicles were heading west on West Old Camden Road.
It is reported that the driver then tried to correct the path, leading to a collision with the front of the truck. Subsequently, control of the jeep was lost, resulting in it overturning and entering a ditch. Impact with a utility pole was also noted in the official account.
Further investigation by the Highway Patrol confirmed that Annabelle Andrews, who was 15 years old and a student at Mcbee High School, was the passenger in the jeep at the time of the collision. Tragically, she passed away at the scene according to the Darlington County Coroner, Todd Hardee.
The driver of the jeep suffered injuries and was treated by emergency medical services before being transported to Carolina Pines Hospital.
The operator of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident, according to the provided police information.
