Individuals connected to Juan Hernandez Esparza, who was fatally shot during what authorities suspect was a vehicle theft, have expressed their emotions publicly.
Dallas law enforcement confirmed the incident transpired in the northern part of the city while Esparza was engaged in a video conversation. He was identified as a 34-year-old man.
According to reports, police received a dispatch on the morning of August 18, less than three hours after midnight, to the Jones Creek apartment complex on Lombardy Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered Esparza and pronounced him deceased.
Further details from the incident indicate Esparza was inside his automobile during a FaceTime call when an altercation occurred, culminating in a gunshot wound.
Esparza’s sibling recounted the distressing news, describing the initial disbelief and the emotional burden of notifying their mother.
Police have apprehended a suspect, identified as Rocky Mejia Junior, a 22-year-old male, who was captured on camera fleeing the area with Esparza’s car.
