The unfortunate demise of Valarie Potter, a lady whose identity was confirmed via a fundraising page, occurred in a vehicle collision within Lenoir County. Although the Highway Patrol had not officially disclosed the deceased’s name until recently, her sibling created a GoFundMe campaign, stating that Valarie Potter met her end in a hit-and-run incident that transpired on the 5th of August. The family was formally told that the deceased was indeed Valarie Potter.

It appears that Ms. Potter was walking along Paul’s Path Road in Lenoir County when she was unfortunately struck by a pickup truck. The tragic scene was discovered four days post-incident by two individuals who were walking; they promptly contacted the authorities. Consequently, Steven Hawkins was arrested and charged with a felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death.

According to the state troopers, when a trooper identified Hawkins’ pickup truck on U.S. 70, its condition bore marks matching the fatal accident. Hawkins was subsequently stopped and confessed during the interrogation that he had collided with and caused the death of a woman on Paul’s Path Road.
