Law enforcement authorities reported that a collision resulted in the death of an individual. A minor was transported to medical facilities due to an injury, and three teenagers were taken to hospitals, requiring extensive medical treatment. This serious traffic incident happened in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Emergency medical services provided reports that the accident transpired at 3:41 p.m. near the point where Sheriff Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway meet in Landover. The Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department shared this information on a social media platform.
The county’s interim police chief, George Nader, addressed the incident during a press conference. He explained that officers from the Seat Pleasant division were tracking a vehicle they suspected had been stolen. He stated that they were directed to cease the pursuit and complied with that order. Regrettably, a crash soon happened at the specified intersection.
Police indicated that the vehicle, which was stolen and contained four young people, failed to stop at a red traffic signal before colliding with another car. The official involved confirmed this sequence of events.
Shaunte Denise Canty, who was 35 years old and a resident of Washington, D.C., was identified as the deceased. Her two-year-old child was inside the vehicle with her at the time of the crash. Fortunately, the child survived the incident and is currently receiving care at a local medical center.
The three teenagers involved in the accident were hospitalized with severe injuries. All four teenagers are in the custody of the police at this time.
