Fatal Decatur County shooting death of Travis Manlief

Law enforcement authorities report that a man was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Decatur County on Wednesday. The incident occurred near Greensburg.

Approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from Decatur County Sheriff’s Department observed a vehicle they suspected was connected to a previous incident in Ripley County. A responding Greensburg officer joined the scene. The officers involved believed the driver of the vehicle was the subject of a pending criminal investigation and was also wanted for another separate offense.

The deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle located on County Road 400 East, near County Road 300 North. The vehicle contained two men and a woman. As the high-risk stop progressed, officers directed the occupants to exit the vehicle individually.

The male passenger, later identified as Travis Manlief, 39, of Greensburg, exited the vehicle while reportedly brandishing a firearm. He allegedly pointed the weapon towards the officers. In response, the law enforcement officers fired their weapons at Manlief, causing him to fall to the ground.

Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment at the scene. However, medical examiners confirmed that Manlief did not survive the injuries. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel or members of the public sustained injuries during the confrontation.

State Police confirm that all officers involved were equipped with body-worn recording devices and vehicle-mounted cameras, which captured footage of the incident. These visual records are currently being reviewed as part of the ongoing official investigation.
