Further information released by the medical examiner indicates that Justin Mangum, a 37-year-old man, was the person who passed away after the head-on collision with Ruben Perez. Perez, who was 30 at the time, was formally accused of causing a fatality while under the influence.

San Antonio law enforcement confirmed that Perez was apprehended on August 30, 2025, for the offense of intoxicated manslaughter. It was reported that Perez was transported to a medical facility following the accident, where tests revealed he was under the influence at the time of the incident.
