The county’s official investigator has confirmed the identity of the child who perished in the late Saturday blaze. Three-year-old Davian Cash Baker lost his life as a direct result of the fire that engulfed a residence on Jackson Street.
Emergency responders were called to the location around 7 p.m. on Saturday. Locals reported that the boy was still inside the structure when they began screaming about the flames. Fire crews conducted a quick sweep of the building and located the child. Despite intensive treatment at the local hospital, Davian succumbed to his severe burns.
The head of the rescue team stated that the origin of the fire remains unknown at this time. The house had functioning smoke alarms installed, but they apparently did not prevent the tragedy.
