Local law enforcement is probing a violent incident that resulted in the death of a young man in Eunice. The fatal event occurred late on a Sunday evening, with reports suggesting a group of individuals with possible weapons were involved in the area near Fuselier Street.
Witnesses reported seeing a cluster of teenagers, dressed in dark clothing and face coverings, moving through the neighborhood around 9 or 10 p.m. Some accounts indicate these individuals were carrying firearms. The sounds of multiple gunshots quickly followed, alarming residents. One person observed the victim, later identified as Fredrick Stevens Jr., collapse on the street and promptly called emergency services.
A concerned resident who saw the aftermath reported that projectiles struck their property, including a room where their children were present, though they were not at home at the time of the incident. This resident wished to remain unidentified.
Eunice Police arrived at the scene in the 200 block of Fuselier Street and found the victim with serious injuries. Emergency medical services were already en route, but despite their efforts, the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that the young man did not survive. Initial reports confirmed the death of an 18-year-old male in Eunice following a shooting. Police were activated at approximately 10:02 p.m. on August 31st after receiving intelligence about several individuals in hooded garments, armed, walking along Perrotti Street towards Fuselier Street. Shortly after, another alert reported shots being fired nearby.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim with a serious wound to his upper body. Medical personnel performed resuscitation attempts, but the fatality was declared at the scene by the Coroner’s Office.
