Hailey Nicole Blake and Shawn Glen Blake die in fatal Liberty City shooting
Fatal Liberty City shooting death of Hailey Nicole Blake and Shawn Glen Blake
On Monday afternoon, two people, a 16-year-old female and her 49-year-old father, were killed in a shooting at Hugh Camp Memorial Park in Liberty City, according to the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office. The victims did not survive their injuries, and the incident occurred at the park location.
The suspected individual, named Christopher Wayne Hicks Jr., who is believed to be the daughter’s boyfriend, was transported to a hospital with serious wounds that were apparently self-inflicted in nature. This person received medical attention for life-threatening conditions.
Law enforcement was dispatched to the park on Monday afternoon after reports of a shooting involving several people. Upon arrival, officers from the sheriff’s office, along with emergency medical teams from Christus EMS and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel, began administering life-saving measures to the injured individuals.
In a statement released Tuesday, Chief Deputy Craig Harrington suggested the event was a targeted assault rather than a random violent act. He also mentioned that apart from the three people involved, there were no other reported injuries at the park.
The sheriff’s office noted that two off-duty emergency responders were present at the park and provided aid to the victims, though they were not connected to the confrontation.
Investigators are seeking any witnesses or additional information about the shooting and asking the public to reach out to the sheriff’s office for assistance.
