Fatal Avondale shooting death of Jakeem Williams
Law enforcement officials reported that 23-year-old Jakeem Williams was killed in a shooting incident early Monday morning in the Avondale region. Williams was pronounced dead by authorities after sustaining multiple gunshot injuries, found on the ground just before 1 a.m. at a location on Highway 90.
Sheriff’s deputies reacted to initial reports of gunfire near an Avondale business and subsequently arrived at the scene. Spokesperson Sgt. Brandon Veal confirmed the deputies found Williams lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.
While responding to the initial shooting call, deputies encountered Semaj Brown, a 25-year-old man from New Orleans. Brown told investigators he had argued with Williams before the fatal shooting occurred.
Due to Brown’s statements, detectives secured an arrest warrant against him for charges of second-degree murder. Brown was confined at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center as of Tuesday. His release is anticipated pending a $500,000 bond.
