The Kern County Coroner’s Office has officially confirmed the identity of the man who died when struck by a vehicle. The deceased is identified as 70-year-old Richard Todd Zito from Bellevue, Nebraska.
According to official records, the incident occurred on August 30th, 2025, at approximately 1:38 in the early morning hour. Zito was acting as a pedestrian at the location on Highway 58 situated east of Mill Street in Tehachapi.
The preliminary investigation indicates Zito was walking when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, but unfortunately, they were unable to provide any assistance as Mr. Zito had already succumbed to his injuries at the spot where he was hit.
The California Highway Patrol is currently examining the circumstances surrounding this fatal occurrence. Authorities are still gathering information about the other vehicle involved and the exact conditions that led to this unfortunate event.
