CHARLES JOSEPH CHAPKO III DIES IN FATAL CLINTON COUNTY CAR CRASH

Fatal Clinton County car crash death of Charles Joseph Chapko III

CLINTON COUNTY – A man killed in an August 30th collision in a rural area of Clinton County has been identified as Charles Joseph Chapko III, aged 24, from St. Johns.

According to information released by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Chapko was operating his vehicle when it collided with a tree and subsequently began to burn, near the intersection of Island Road and Watson Road, approximately 7:40 p.m. on that Saturday. He was thrown from the car and was confirmed deceased at the scene by emergency responders.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 5th, 2025, at McGeehan Funeral Homes located in St. Johns. Visitation hours are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a prayer service occurring at 7:30 p.m. followed by a “Trucker’s Tribute.”

Chapko was actively involved in the local community and professionally operated a milk delivery route for DRB Transport. He held a real estate license and personally owned and managed three rental homes in St. Johns.

Described in an online obituary as a determined and ambitious individual, Chapko was known for his community service. He frequently took time to help his neighbors by mowing their lawns and contributed to the community during the holiday season by assisting those in need.
