An unfortunate head-on collision occurred along a major highway in western Lee County on Sunday afternoon, according to reports from KBTX 3 television. Emergency services dispatched to the scene around 5 p.m. found the wreckage of a two-vehicle accident on Texas Highway 21, close to the intersection with Farm to Market Road 2440, known locally as Manheim Road. This location places the event approximately one hour east of Austin and in the northwest region of the city of Giddings.
Initial examination of the situation suggests that a collision between a silver pickup truck and a blue sedan happened when the pickup’s operator mistakenly entered the path of oncoming traffic. The occupants inside the sedan, whose names are Richard and Isabella Ungerman, were pronounced dead at the accident site by emergency responders.
So far, there have been no reports of additional injuries among those associated with the incident. Law enforcement officers are currently assessing the circumstances surrounding the driver of the pickup who was traveling against the flow of traffic at the time the collision took place.
Investigators continue to gather information as this case is still in its preliminary stages.
