Aaron Vigil dies in fatal Pueblo shooting
Fatal Pueblo shooting death of Aaron Vigil
A 38-year-old man, identified as Aaron Vigil, died following law enforcement gunfire during a reported incident. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the deceased.
According to records from the Pueblo Police Department, law enforcement responded to a report of a robbery around 8:05 a.m. on September 14th in the area near Bonforte Boulevard and Glendale Avenue. Reports indicate officers located a suspect vehicle matching the description provided by the initial report. A vehicle chase then began, resulting in the suspect’s vehicle colliding in the West Eighth Street vicinity.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupant allegedly brandished a weapon. Despite multiple demands to relinquish the object, the individual reportedly refused. Law enforcement then employed tasers in an effort to subdue the subject and prevent further actions. Following the taser deployment, officers opened fire, claiming they believed the subject posed an ongoing threat. Tragically, shots fired during this encounter proved fatal.
After officers secured the situation and neutralized the threat, emergency medical professionals provided care. Medical personnel transported the injured individual to a healthcare facility, but his condition ultimately deteriorated, leading to his death.
The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team has been formally activated to conduct a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading this investigation.
Determination of the precise cause and manner of death rests with the coroner. Following the recent resignation of the former county coroner amid legal scrutiny, the El Paso County Coroner is serving in an operational advisory role for the Pueblo facility. The official determination will require a comprehensive review.
