A Kennewick resident identified as Eric A. Hill has died following injuries sustained in a traffic collision on Duportail Street. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed through dispatch reports and statements from the office of the Chief Deputy Coroner.
Hill was reported to have been riding a bicycle southbound on Duportail Street approximately 5:35 a.m. when the fatal accident took place. The coroner’s office noted that Hill typically biked on this route before starting his day, though he was not participating in the nearby Ironman 70.3 cycling event.
The Duportail Bridge, spanning the Yakima River and located in south Richland, is a significant route for cyclists. The accident site was situated near the intersection with City View Drive, close to Richland Fire Station 74.
Emergency services were alerted when the driver involved in the Richland crash contacted 911 to report the incident. Police have not yet released the identity of the operator of the vehicle that collided with Hill.
