Nathan Arthur Webster dies in fatal Redding death while in custody
Fatal Redding death while in custody of Nathan Arthur Webster
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the man who passed away during his incarceration at the Redding jail. Nathan Arthur Webster, aged 46 and a local resident, was identified as the individual whose passing has prompted a multi-agency investigation.
According to information provided by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, jail personnel were performing standard welfare inspections when they discovered Webster unresponsive inside his cell prior to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, the 14th of September. Medical personnel and deputies provided emergency care, but were unfortunately unsuccessful in their attempts to save Mr. Webster’s life.
The case is currently being examined by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit. The Redding Police Department’s Detective Division and the local Coroner’s Office are providing support to the investigating team.
This incident marks the sixth occurrence of an inmate fatality occurring within Shasta County’s correctional facility over the past couple of years. A grand jury report issued in May indicated that previous inmate deaths, which spanned a 13-month period, were primarily linked to personal health and lifestyle choices such as substance abuse and self-endangering activities, rather than deficiencies in jail management procedures.
