Police are investigating the death of a 58-year-old man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on East Broad Street in Bridgeton, Cumberland County. The victim, identified as Pedro Chavaz, was found unconscious on the roadside around 9:30 p.m. Saturday and later pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and facial injuries.
Chavaz’s daughter, Miriam Chavaz, shared that her father was injured while on his way to a rental property after purchasing groceries. She mentioned that he was walking near a nearby convenience store when the incident occurred. Miriam Chavaz stated that she learned about the accident after receiving a call from her mother in Guatemala, who was unable to contact Pedro at the time.
Miriam described her father as a dedicated worker employed at a local farm and expressed deep sorrow over the family’s loss.
Investigators suspect the vehicle involved may show damage to the front passenger side and windshield. Local drivers have expressed growing concerns about road safety on East Broad Street. A resident named Bob Chan commented, “People just driving crazy nowadays.”
According to authorities, a suspect has been taken into custody, though no further details have been released. The ongoing investigation continues to gather more information about the incident.
