Fatal Fitchburg stabbing death of Ronald Perceval

A 40-year-old man, named as Fitchburg resident Ronald Perceval, was killed in a violent altercation in Fitchburg on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as confirmed by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Fitchburg police were called to Chester Street before 5:30 a.m. on that Tuesday morning due to reports of a disturbance involving a sharp object. Upon their arrival, the officers encountered Perceval, who had suffered multiple serious cuts. He was immediately transported to a medical facility where doctors attempted to save him, but he ultimately did not survive the injuries.

According to early investigative notes from authorities, this was not a chance encounter, as the people involved in the incident were familiar with each other.

Brockton resident Charles Ednerson, who was taken into custody in Brockton on Tuesday, is facing criminal accusations tied to Perceval’s death. These charges include attempting to use force to cause severe harm and using a dangerous item to harm someone. During a court appearance in Fitchburg District Court on Wednesday, Ednerson stated he was not responsible for the stabbing and would contest the charges.

Legal documents from the court system show that Ednerson has been denied release on bail and will remain incarcerated until a hearing to assess his potential threat is held on September 24.

To date, no other details concerning the stabbing have been shared with the public.
