Elenora Mitchell dies in fatal Rockledge car crash
Fatal Rockledge car crash death of Elenora Mitchell
Law enforcement officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of an 83-year-old woman from Rockledge, who was involved in a fatal vehicular incident. The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as Elenora Mitchell, who was operating her automobile along Eyster Boulevard, close to U.S. 1, at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12th. At the time of the accident, she was heading eastbound.
The collision occurred when her vehicle was struck by a southbound Brightline train, leading to a devastating outcome. The force of the impact caused the car to be severed in two, with a section of the wreckage being pulled for hundreds of yards until the train halted. This tragic event underscores the dangers of crossing train tracks.
Available footage from a nearby surveillance camera, provided by a local medical facility, depicts the lowering of the railway barriers and the activation of the auditory warning system indicating an approaching train. Subsequently, the recording shows the driver’s car making contact with the crossing arms and coming to a stop on the tracks. The Brightline train then proceeds and collides with the stationary vehicle, resulting in the fatal injuries.
No individuals aboard the train sustained any harm during this occurrence. Tragically, this accident represents the fifth recorded fatality in Brevard County this year linked to an oncoming train, with the majority of these incidents involving the Brightline service. Authorities continue to investigate to determine the full scope of the situation.
