Officials from the county’s coroner department have determined that 24-year-old Jorge Vidal Aguirre-Munguia was the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. He was identified as the person killed in the incident that occurred on northbound Interstate 5.
According to the California Highway Patrol, emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately midday on September 15th, 2025. The crash happened north of Rowlee Road.
Initial reports from law enforcement indicate that Aguirre-Munguia was operating a 2025 Ram 1500 truck traveling north on the highway. At the same time, a man from La Puente driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla was heading south on the same stretch of road.
The official investigation suggests the Toyota Corolla driver swerved into the center divider area, crossing over into the northbound lanes. This unexpected movement directly led to an unavoidable collision with Aguirre-Munguia’s truck.
The front section of the Corolla struck the left side of the Ram 1500. After the impact, the Corolla drove off in a southeasterly direction before stopping on the shoulder area.
Tragically, Mr. Aguirre-Munguia did not survive the injuries he sustained in the accident. Medical examiners pronounced him dead at the location. The other driver, who suffered moderate injuries, was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
The California Highway Patrol stated that preliminary findings do not suggest impairment from drugs or alcohol played any role in this particular crash. The ongoing investigation continues to explore the exact reasons why the Toyota driver veered from their path.
