Fatal Calhoun County car crash deaths of Alondra Bravo and Jorge Perez Hechavarria

Two individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a collision involving two automobiles. This occurred in Calhoun County on Saturday, on Highway 7, approximately three miles east of the city of Manson.

The Iowa State Patrol confirmed the fatal accident. The deceased were identified as 26-year-old Alondra Bravo and 34-year-old Jorge Perez Hechavarria, residents of Storm Lake. Both victims were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The four injured people were identified as follows: an 8-year-old boy, 46-year-old Marina Escalante, Wifredo Quevedo Mesa (34), and 21-year-old Connor Darr (21), the location of the last two needing correction. Connor Darr is from Manson. The remaining injured individuals were Luis Bravo and Wifredo Quevedo Mesa, listed twice in the original. Transport details included LifeFlight for Marina Escalante and ground ambulances for Wifredo Quevedo Mesa, Luis Bravo, and Connor Darr to nearby medical facilities.

The official report indicates that Wifredo Quevedo Mesa was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Explorer heading west on Highway 7. He reportedly crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The pickup was being driven by Connor Darr, who was traveling eastbound. The force of the impact pushed both vehicles off the road and into a ditch. The Explorer flipped onto its side, and the pickup subsequently crashed into a utility pole before coming to rest in a nearby field. It was noted that three passengers in the Explorer were seated on patio furniture before the crash. All three were unrestrained at the time of the collision.
