The identity of the pilot involved in a fatal aircraft accident has been confirmed as Paul “Poo” Smith, a renowned figure in the skydiving community.

Smith, who was 54 years old, held multiple roles, including that of a pilot and the former owner and chief instructor of a skydiving enterprise. His death occurred on the previous Saturday when the plane he was piloting crashed near Moruya Airport, located on the South Coast of New South Wales.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a nearby bushland area west of George Bass Drive in Moruya, approximately 305 kilometers south of Sydney, following reports of the incident. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) stated that the aircraft was en route back to the airport after completing a skydiving operation. Smith was the only person on board and sustained fatal injuries, passing away at the scene. Local witnesses recognized him, and law enforcement notified his family.
