Fatal Nevada motorcycle crash death of Cameron Jayden Wilhelm

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division has identified the young man killed in a motorcycle collision along College Parkway the night of September 27.

According to preliminary investigative reports from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Jayden Wilhelm, who was 22 and a resident of Carson City, lost his life when his motorcycle lost control while heading southeast on College Parkway near the Carson City Airport. The investigation revealed that the vehicle slid, crossed into the northwest-bound lane, and collided with a barrier that separates the airport from the street.

A statement issued on September 30 confirmed that next-of-kin notifications have been completed. The statement also noted that Cameron was participating in the Street Vibrations Fall Rally in Carson City on the day of the incident. Emergency responders from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office initiated life-saving measures at the scene, but the arrival of the Carson City Fire Department’s EMS team confirmed the absence of vital signs, with fatal injuries cited as the cause.

The final determination of the cause of death is pending autopsy findings from the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed contributed to the fatal incident. Sheriff Ken Furlong, speaking on Monday, urged drivers to adhere to posted speed limits in the area.

College Parkway experiences heavy traffic during the annual Street Vibrations motorcycle rally, which draws riders from Reno and Virginia City, according to Furlong.

During the ongoing investigation on the night of the crash, emergency crews placed barriers at East Nye Lane and Otha Street to close the affected portion of College Parkway. A secondary collision occurred at the Otha Street barricade around 8:20 p.m. on the same day. The investigation into this incident indicates that a motorcyclist, who had stopped at the barricade, was struck from behind by another rider, causing them to be thrown into the barrier.

The rider involved in the secondary crash sustained back injuries and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, while the other motorcyclist opted against seeking medical treatment.

Furlong emphasized that all individuals involved in both incidents were wearing helmets. He also highlighted the dangers of the sharp curve on College Parkway and stressed that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office maintained increased patrols during the Street Vibrations rally, resulting in multiple arrests, citations, and warnings.

“It is saddening that someone lost their life during this incident… however, the investigation suggests that no other individuals were implicated in this fatality,” Furlong stated. “Both accidents were preventable.”
