Cy Jonathon Johnson dies in fatal Redding stabbing
Fatal Redding stabbing death of Cy Jonathon Johnson
The Shasta County Coroner identified the deceased as 42-year-old Cy Jonathon Johnson following his death at a transitional living facility in Redding during September. According to an official statement released Monday, Sept. 29, Johnson was found deceased at the Stability Solutions housing facility.
Johnson, previously connected to Anderson, was serving a period of probation and resided at the Aruba Drive facility. Police reports indicate that Johnson was housed at the same location as the individual currently suspected of his death.
Investigations by the Redding Police Department reveal that Johnson and Matthew Jacob Riddle, another county resident also under probation supervision, reportedly became involved in a physical altercation before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The conflict is alleged to have started when Riddle lodged a false accusation against Johnson, specifically claiming Johnson was a registered sex offender. Following the initial confrontation, police records state Riddle returned to the premises and inflicted multiple stab wounds on Johnson.
During the incident, other people present attempted to provide emergency assistance to Johnson. According to law enforcement details, upon arrival, emergency medical services transported Johnson to Mercy Medical Center. Tragically, medical staff confirmed he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
During the investigation, authorities chose to keep Johnson’s identity private until they had notified his family. Law enforcement apprehended Riddle as he attempted to leave the scene. Subsequently, Riddle was formally processed at the Shasta County Jail on Saturday, Sept. 27, facing charges including murder and domestic violence. Up-to-date records indicate his bail has been set at $1 million.
The Shasta County Coroner’s office has formally scheduled a postmortem examination to conduct a thorough investigation. Redding Police authorities have confirmed this case remains active and under their ongoing scrutiny. The Redding Police Department has encouraged the public to provide any information related to the incident by contacting Sgt. Josiah Ferrin at 530-225-4214.
