Deputies reported that a man, later confirmed as Alec Grieger, ended his life during an arrest attempt following a fatal shooting incident in Mattydale on Sunday. The event began when the owner of a local convenience store confronted a suspected shoplifter, resulting in a deadly confrontation.

Emad Alharbi, identified as the store owner, was 31 years old. According to an official statement, he was shot multiple times after confronting Alec Grieger, who was attempting to steal items from the store around midday on Sunday. Grieger, described as an adult male from Mattydale, lived in a nearby residential area.

Further details confirmed Alec Grieger, aged 30, as the suspect. He had entered the store and attempted to steal merchandise before being confronted by the owner. Following the confrontation, authorities identified Grieger as the person responsible for the shooting. Alharbi was transported to a hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Deputies subsequently responded to Grieger’s residence, located several blocks from the store. Despite efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, Grieger died by suicide before law enforcement officers could intervene, according to official reports.
